Having a travel insurance background will be integral to your success in this role.



Position Summary:

 Provides overall leadership and strategic direction for the comprehensive travel insurance (trip cancellation) business unit and to make sales and underwriting recommendations and decisions to protect the financial assets of the company and the carrier. This position will establish the go to market strategy for this new product and be responsible for implementing agreed upon strategy and ensuring its success. Will be highly involved in the development of the product and the filing product for first 18 months and will also be building a pipeline of distribution partners that will be ready to begin selling when the product filing is completed. Establishes strategies and objectives, coordinating with all organizational goals and standards. Accountable for financial performance and attainment of profit goals of assigned business unit.

 



Key Responsibilities:

 Relying on extensive knowledge and advanced leadership skills specific to the trip cancellation market, the AVP is accountable for the following responsibilities:

 

  • Develop and implement strategies and controls to meet sales and underwriting objectives.
  • Develop line of business goals and is responsible for achieving both short- and long-term financial objectives including all operating expenses. Meet or exceed growth in net income while managing a profitable loss ratio.
  • Provide assistance for underwriting approval for pricing and oversees the underwriting staff.
  • Oversee the development of new or improved products and/or services.
  • Identify strategic market opportunities for growth.
  • Handle the more difficult decisions of marketing and underwriting.
  • Educate clients regarding products and practices of HCC MIS.
  • Work with producers directly as their management/expert resource to resolve problems and answer any high-level questions.
  • Conduct on-site visits to producers to maintain and continue development of relationships with an emphasis on selling profitable business.
  • Work with heads of other business units and departments to ensure consistency and uniformity of practices of the organization as a whole. Communicate and ensure understanding of these policies and practices.

Position Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements:

 Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or a related field or the equivalent education and/or experience
  •  

Experience

  • Minimum of ten years of relevant and progressive experience in area of specialization
  • Minimum of six years of leadership experience

 

Other

  • Possess and have ability to apply advanced knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
  • Superior organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Knowledgeable of industry changes, legal updates, and technical developments related to applicable area of the Company’s business to proactively respond to changing business environment
  • Advanced proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office package (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)
