Job Description

Tokio Marine HCC - Surety Group, a member of the Tokio Marine HCC group of companies has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Commercial Bond Underwriter in our Phoenix, AZ office. Under immediate supervision, the Associate Commercial Bond Underwriter will review commercial bond applications to evaluate, classify, and rate each risk to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing. Has limited underwriting authority and minor business development responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Relying on instructions and pre-established guidelines, the Associate Commercial Bond Underwriter is responsible for accomplishing the following as guided by others. These assignments are routine in nature.

• Analyze creditworthiness of potential and existing clients by inputting basic applicant financial information into underwriting system including working capital, net worth, net income, etc. to determine if supplied information falls within credit book guidelines
• Analyze specific surety bond obligations
• Respond to bond requests from agents and accounts including canceling or reinstating bonds, reconciling information, sending letters of cancellation, and distributing appropriate copies to respective parties
• Maintain/update bond and financial files, which may require requesting additional information from agent/account
• Handle accounting issues
• Respond to requests for release of collateral
• Attend agency marketing and industry events as needed
 

Job Requirements

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field or the equivalent education and/or experience

Experience
• Up to two years of relevant and progressive professional surety bond underwriting experience that includes a strong working knowledge of state laws.

Other
• Possess and have ability to apply basic knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures
• Good written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
• Good organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Knowledgeable of industry changes, legal updates and technical developments related to applicable area of the Company’s business to proactively respond to changing business environment
• Proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office Package (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)


Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
• Overtime hours may be required to fulfill job responsibilities
• May require travel outside normal work location
• May require a valid driver’s license
• May be required to stoop, bend, or sit for extended periods of time
• May be required to lift up to 10 pounds
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other devices
• Close vision and ability to adjust focus; required to read a computer screen
