Job Description

Job Purpose:

The role of Business Intelligence Developer is to work within the BI Team and with the wider business to support, enhance and develop the company’s data warehouse and Business Intelligence systems. The developer will design, develop and test new reports, data extracts and ETL processes as required by project or work requests.

The role will focus on the support and development of the existing data warehouse solution in the first instance but opportunities will arise to work on aspects of a major new BI/ Data Warehouse programme that will provide a step-change in the company’s BI capabilities over the next couple of years.

General Activities & Key Tasks:

  • Maintain and support the data warehouse and associated applications
  • Liaise with users to specify, design and implement changes to the data warehouse as required by the business
  • Provide assistance with the resolution of user problems and queries
  • Liaise with the IT department on changes to upstream and downstream systems to ensure that any impacts on the BI systems are identified and dealt with accordingly
  • Database, ETL, Report and OLAP development work
  • Monitor and maintain the integrity, performance and capacity of the data warehouse
  • Run month-end procedures and reports as required
  • Maintain change management controls for all system changes
  • Data analysis, reconciliation and manipulation as required
  • Work as part of the Business Intelligence Team to deliver a coordinated and evolving BI solution for TMHCC.

Job Requirements

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • Candidate must hold a degree in a relevant discipline with at least two year’s commercial experience with at least one of those years within a BI role
  • Knowledge of MS SQL Server
  • Good understanding of Database schema design
  • Exposure to Transact SQL coding
  • Understand the principals of ETL design and development
  • Understand the principals of data modelling
  • Knowledge of data warehouse principles
  • Knowledge of problem analysis, structured analysis and design, and programming techniques
  • Independent thinker with strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal and time management skills
  • Good verbal and written communications skills
  • Confident, friendly, self-motivated personality

Desirable Skills & Qualifications:

  • Exposure to large scale data warehousing and BI solutions
  • London Market Insurance knowledge
  • Microsoft Visual Studio online
  • Knowledge of NoSQL
  • Knowledge of python
  • Knowledge of Power BI
