Job Description

  • TMHCC is undertaking a project to make some strategic enhancements to the data warehouse, the financial reporting functionality that is performed within the warehouse and associated data marts. The project includes consolidating legacy business logic and gaining business agreement on the required logic going forwards. The role will be heavily involved with the finance team, including legal entity reporting, Lloyd’s reporting and solvency II.
    • The project will re-architect elements of the existing architecture inline with industry standards, address key business requirements relating to architecture and ensure the BI architecture is future proofed for TMHCC’s needs.
    • A key objective of the project is to drive the road map for BI architecture based on business requirements.
  • The role reports into the Head of Business Intelligence for line management and to the Project Manager for the project.
  • Day to day coordination of the role will be managed by the Project Manager
  • The role will have occasional contact with the COO, CIO and CFO.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Business in identifying, defining and communicating change initiatives
  • Support and produce Business Case and associated project documentation as required
  • Act as a bridge between the Business and IT Developers to ensure consistent understanding of requirements
  • Elicit, analyse and document business requirements (in the media required which could be user stories, Use Cases or BRD)
  • Deliver supporting documentation for requirements (such as process maps, data attribute catalogues, wireframes and so on)
  • Prioritise requirements to deliver maximum business benefit within set constraints
  • Understand the Solution/ Design proposed and challenge appropriately
  • Ensure timely completion of project milestones with support from the project manager
  • Anticipate bottlenecks and escalate as appropriate
  • Facilitation of workshops and meetings
  • Development of training material, provide orientation and go live support for users as required
  • Provide input to the test function, producing test scenarios, test scripts as required
  • Follow the organization’s governance around project and program work
  • Manage and resolve queries arising during design, build, test, go live and warranty
  • Carry out data analysis, data modelling, ETL and report specification
  • Carry out data reconciliation and manipulation as required

Job Requirements

Skills and Experience Specification:

Must have

  • Solid experience and knowledge of the Lloyd’s and/or Company insurance sector
  • Solid experience and knowledge of Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing and Reporting at a technical level
  • This person must be someone capable of self managing. They will not be “hand held” and will need to identify and reach out required Business and technical users.
  • The ability to write Business facing,  detailed and accurate documentation
  • Good communication skills, capable of working with all resources from technical IT through to executive.

Should have

  • Knowledge of regulatory reporting including Solvency 2, TPD, PMD
  • Knowledge of basic financial concepts such as double entry
  • Familiar with key data warehouse concepts such as change data capture, slowly changing dimensions, star schemas, 3rd normal form, etc.
  • Familiar with Master Data Management (MDM) concepts
  • Experience of producing reporting specifications
  • Experience of producing ETL functional specifications

Nice to have

  • Awareness of the SQL query language, ability to interpret SQL and map it onto business logic
  • Awareness of ETL tools and industry standard reporting tools
  • Have been involved in the design data marts and/or data warehouses
  • Awareness of common issues found in architecture focused projects
  • Awareness of the Spark EA enterprise architecture tool
  • Awareness of Team Foundation Services (TFS)
  • Experience with Sparx Enterprise Architect software
  • Knowledge of London market underwriting systems, especially SBS Eclipse, IRIS and Genius would be a distinct advantage
  • IBM Infosphere Fast Track experience would be highly beneficial
