We have an exciting opening for a Weather/Prize Program Claims Assistant in the Wakefield, MA office.

Position Overview

To succeed in this position, the Claims Assistant will be able to confidently and competently handle weather claims from start to finish.

Performance Objectives

Learn the technology systems: During the first 30 days, learn the technology (AS400 and ImageRight) systems, and train with members of claims staff on overall insurance operations and types of risks insured in our office. Begin working on weather claims with strong oversight. Learn how to read an insurance policy, confirm coverage, gather needed data as well as learn to enter claim payments, set up claims, etc. Understand the roles held by inside and outside staff involved in the claims process – underwriters, accounting, compliance, outside brokers, Insureds, etc.

Correspond directly with brokers and insureds: During the first 90 days, begin to correspond directly with brokers and Insureds to acknowledge claims, provide claim determinations and information. Handle straight forward weather claims by obtaining and researching the policy, reviewing coverage, reviewing claims/weather data and advising brokers and insureds of claim outcome. Enter payments and send checks on payable claims. Strong oversight from claims management as the candidate/employee learns the skills needed to oversee the program.

Take ownership of the claims weather program: By the end of the first 6 months, take ownership of the claims weather program and handle all straightforward claims and inquiries as needed. Advise management of any claims that escalate, that involve any complaints or that need approval from outside carrier or TMHCC corporate office. Work with management to develop claim handling strategies on any disputed claims.

Independently handle weather claims: One of the major objectives of this position is to handle weather claims, eventually independently, from first report to conclusion and to assist senior claims staff as needed with set up of claims, paying bills, special projects, etc.

This is an entry-level position and requires no prior experience.

Up to 10% travel is required.
