Claims Counsel/Handler – Native Italian Speaker based in Barcelona



As a Claims Counsel, based in our Barcelona office, you will form part of a dynamic team of professionals that focus on managing and analysing claims on stand-alone Directors and Officers policies (including coverage for Employment Practices) issued to SME or large companies, claims on blended policies (E&O, Crime, D&O) issued to Financial Institutions, claims on E&O policies issued principally to Lawyers, Accountants and Architects, claims on Warranty & Indemnity Policies and claims on Cyber Liability Policies. You will directly report to the Claims Manager and must be able to determine the underlying liability of our Insureds, including the likely quantum of damages, as well as HCC’s responsibility under its contract of insurance. 


  • Review and establish claim files in our claims system
  • Prepare coverage positions, explain and defend them vis a vis brokers / clients
  • Monitor the development of claims and where appropriate assign counsel and manage litigation
  • Prepare reports for Management with respect to reserves, case developments and claim trends
  • Support underwriting team by communicating claim trends and developments and assisting them in developing to appropriate underwriting responses
  • Attend settlement conferences

Job Requirements


  • Two to three years’ experience in insurance or in the legal field
  • Experience in insurance claims handling
  • Law degree recommended
  • Italian native speaker and Fluent in English
