We have an exciting opportunity for a Corporate Finance & Accounting Research Director in our Corporate Headquarters located in Houston, TX.

Position Summary: 

Researches, prepares, and documents corporate-wide accounting policy and accounting-related activities and documentation involving mergers, acquisitions and dispositions. Ensures that all documentation complies with company regulations, professional standards, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and statutory reporting guidelines. Responsible for analyzing financial reports to identify trends in the business. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Relying on extensive knowledge and advanced leadership skills, the Corporate Finance & Accounting Research Director is accountable for the following responsibilities: 

  • Research, document, and plan the implementation of rules and regulations regarding corporate wide accounting policy, including new US GAAP pronouncements and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Assist the VP, Finance & Accounting with acquisition purchase accounting activities on acquisitions and due diligence activities on acquisitions and/or dispositions.
  • Provide, timely and accurate financial reporting services to senior management and regulatory authorities.
  • Represent company with both external and internal auditors related to financial results as the need arises.
  • Review external financial reports, including special purpose GAAP and statutory financial reports for the Company and the insurance subsidiaries.
  • Develop and review executive presentations, external communication data, and management presentations materials for inclusion in Board materials.
  • Analyze financial reports for identification and presentation to management of key business trends.
  • Serve as a liaison for Corporate Finance with outside auditors.
  • Assist the VP, Finance and Accounting, Chief Accounting Officer, and Chief Financial Officer on special projects as needed.

Job Requirements

Position Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements: 


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting / Finance or a related field
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required 


  • Minimum of ten years or relevant and progressive experience in multiple areas of specialization
  • Minimum six years of progressive experience in accounting or financial research and documentation
  • Minimum of six years of supervisory or leadership experience
  • Minimum of six years of experience in both insurance statutory accounting and public accounting preferred


  • Possess and have ability to apply advanced knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
  • Superior organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Knowledgeable of industry changes, legal updates, and technical developments related to applicable area of the Company’s business to proactively respond to changing business environment
  • Advanced proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office package (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)
