We have an exciting opportunity for a Learning & Development Instructional Designer in our Corporate Headquarters located in Houston, TX. 

Bring your best, innovative self and shine with your expertise in the creation of learning content for adults in corporate environments.  Make your mark as we build out a full-service Learning & Development team that won 2 prestigious awards in 2018 for Talent Strategy and Talent Management.  You will work with varied corporate functions and business line leaders to architect learning solutions that meet their business needs and produce engaging, effective training curriculum.  Your blended learning solutions will further our learning culture imperatives.  With crafting of the right success measurement criteria you will prove results and return on investment.  Since we are a small, growing team you must be flexible to fill-in and do related communications, LMS administration and web production tasks when called upon.

Performance Objectives: 

  • Working with the L&D Manager, listens carefully to the corporate and business line leaders and SMEs (subject matter experts) and then designs learning solutions that solve their real business needs with the right mix of traditional training, 1:1 coaching and experiential learning. This starts with first capturing the objectives, following the ADDIE model, and developing measurement tools with the Kirkpatrick model.   
  • First 30 days is a steep learning curve but jump right in to understand our strategic goals, project priorities, and the immediate projects on the table. This will include working on open curriculum design requests (eLearnings in Articulate Rise and webinar/classroom topics) and getting the Functional/ Technical training development and consulting methodology up and running.  Will be introduced to our 2 flagship leadership programs, LEaD for emerging executives and Foundations of Leadership for supervisors and managers.  Understand our strategic priorities and critical projects for 2019 and beyond and your role in their success 
  • First quarter- Introductions and relationship building with key business leaders, HR business partners, and emerging leaders who are part of current leadership programs. Develop some content with initial wins on approval of design, just in time/just right content, nuance to our businesses, and appropriate tone/style.  Attend sessions for current programs in process to understand the businesses and players.  Assist with LMS solution design and vetting of content partners.  Be introduced to other exciting projects such as our performance management overhaul, with contributions on projects as focus and time permit. 
  • First 6 months- Develop relationships and reputation within the corporate office and business lines as results-oriented, a listener, and trustworthy for meeting agreed upon deadlines. Have a voice – will have learned how to collaborate and contribute on bigger team initiatives.  Will have pitched in wherever needed to host a highly visible leadership conference in the spring 2019.  Will have demonstrated that can, with some guidance, manage client requests from start to finish.

Job Requirements



Position Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements: 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Human Resources, Organizational Development, a related field, or the equivalent education and/or experience
  • ATD Master Certifications preferred, i.e. Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP).
  • Minimum of five years of relevant and progressive professional experience in a fast-paced learning design environment.
  • Demonstrated depth in Adult Learning Modalities, instructional design methods and content authoring tools mastery, i.e. ADDIE/ SAM, Kirkpatrick, Articulate Storyline and Rise, Adobe Captivate, Microsoft SharePoint, etc.
  • Proficiency in the full spectrum of asynchronous development, i.e. storyboarding, audio, video, and e-learning with business requirements gathering and analysis. Comfortable doing voice overs.
  • Previous project management experience.
  • Be an exceptional communicator, both written and verbal skills, and creative to meet the business needs of this position. Be fully engaged, positive and share ideas.  Forward-thinking, planful & attention to detail.  Humor in the face of occasional setbacks.
  • Experience administering learning management systems helpful, i.e. Inspired LMS, Saba, Cornerstone.
