Job Description

Job Purpose:

 The main purposes of the role are:

  1. Assist with the activities of the FP&A team.
  2. Main point of contact for the assigned sub-segment, interfacing between finance and the sub-segment in terms of:
    • Forecasting and Planning
    • Internal Reporting
    • Financial Reserving
    • Decision support and reporting
  3. Assist the Systems Accountant in the production of reports and generation of data for use and deputise in his/her absence.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1) FP&A Responsibilities

 Financial Reserving

  • Booking monthly IBNR numbers into the Reserving System for assigned sub-segment.
  • Liaison with internal and external actuaries, the Commercial Performance and FP&A Manager and Management Accountant (Reserving) on Reserving numbers, review and distribute Reserving reports (including monthly Flash Reserve reports, Triangle reports and Loss Development reports).
  • Review monthly Attritional and Event claim movements and ensure monthly loss ratios are correct.
  • Ensure that financial MI adequately supports the reserving process.
  • Assist team members with process documentation and improvement.

Internal Reporting:

  • Ensure that monthly, quarterly and yearly internal reports are produced, reviewed and distributed in compliance with the required deadlines.
  • Assist in production of monthly and quarterly Executive Summary reports.
  • Analytical review of budget and monthly, quarterly and yearly internal report.
  • Review and improve existing report suite to continually meet stakeholder requirements.
  • Conduct premium and reserves reviews, identify key movements and make recommendations for adjustments as required.

 

2) Sub-segment Support

 Decision Support and Reporting

  • Work closely with other team members and the Systems Accountant to deliver a suite of MI that enables assigned sub-segment to efficiently manage performance to plan.
  • Carry out accurate analysis of key business drivers and parameters that impact current and future profit and revenue growth.
  • Investigate and report on queries arising during the monthly reporting process.
  • Point person for assigned sub-segment.
  • Develop deep understanding of sub-segment’s products including all underwriting aspects, reserving methodology and historical performance.

Forecasting and Planning

  • Liaise with assigned sub-segment and Finance to capture data for annual corporate budgeting and SBF exercises and reforecasts for all International entities as required.
  • Entry, review and validation of budgets in Hyperion and Peoplesoft and Underwriting Plan models.
  • Assist in the completion of plan narratives by assigned sub-segment.
  • Liaison with Management Accountant (Planning) to document Hyperion system issues and identify improvements.

 

3) Systems Accountant Support

 Reporting and Data Generation:

  • Assist the Systems Accountant in the production of monthly, quarterly and yearly internal reports and ensuring they are produced, reviewed and distributed in compliance with the required deadlines.
  • Assist the Systems Accountant in the generation of data for use in the team’s systems and tools ensuring they are produced, updated and reconciled in line with existing processes.
  • Analytical review of budget and monthly, quarterly and yearly internal reports.
  • Review and improve existing report suite to continually meet stakeholder requirements.
  • Conduct premium and reserves reviews, identify key movements and make recommendations for adjustments as required.

Reporting / Systems:

  • Ensure that monthly, quarterly and yearly internal reports are produced, reviewed and distributed in compliance with the required deadlines.
  • Analytical review of budget and monthly, quarterly and yearly internal reports.

 4) Other responsibilities and reporting

  •  Ad-hoc reporting as required.
  • Participate on project work as required.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience Specification:

Essential

  • Accounting experience, Insurance experience required.
  • Excellent IT skills with advanced Excel
  • ACCA, ACA or CIMA qualified / part-qualified
  • Highly numerate
  • Detail orientated
  • Strong aptitude to follow and improve existing processes
  • Ability to work under pressure

 Desirable

  • Peoplesoft and Nvision experience
  • Management Accounting / Planning Experience
  • University degree

 Soft Skills

  • Professional approach and delivery of work product
  • Able to build professional relationships with finance and non-finance staff
