We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior PeopleSoft Oracle DBA in our Corporate Headquarters located in Houston, TX.

Position Summary: 

Under general supervision, establishes database management systems, standards, guidelines and quality assurance for database deliverables, such as conceptual design, logical database, capacity planning, external data interface specification, data loading plan, data maintenance plan and security policy. Provides critical PeopleSoft applications and database administration services and supports enterprise business systems at TMHCC. Has demonstrated experience with the installation and maintenance of stable production and development infrastructure. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Be a trusted advisor to the application teams showcasing customer centricity.
  • Determine logical and physical architecture requirements necessary to create new applications. Create models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones.
  • Support development as well as operations including database builds, configuration, migrations, backup, recovery, performance tuning, data security and close engagement with other infrastructure teams such as systems administration and storage.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to databases.
  • Establish and maintain security and integrity controls. Formulate and monitor policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management.
  • Propose and implement enhancements to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Develop a vision for future computing needs and to develop appropriate plans to meet these needs.
  • Collaborate and offer leadership in chartering new technologies and develop pilot projects such as cloud deployment and migration strategy.
  • Ongoing automation and enhancements of the database platforms such as implementation of configuration management.
  • Apply patches, security updates, and compliance.
  • Research and implement new database technologies to improve functionality.
  • Ensure database environments are efficient, secure and provide high levels of data availability.
  • Form collaborative partnerships grounded in trust and integrity with customers, peers, stakeholders, and leadership.
  • Make well-reasoned decisions that support and advance the mission of the enterprise.
  • Refresh data from one environment to another at the request of the application development staff; execute necessary tasks to accomplish this, including export, drop, create, and import prescheduled time to minimize impact; provide application development staff optimal development environment with current data.
  • Closely monitor performance; identify problems and implement solutions; ensure database is running at optimum speed and efficiency. Verify implementation of correct backup strategy; develop recovery procedures; support recovery from loss of data caused by user or system error.
  • Provide guidance and execute disaster recovery plan.
  • Develop and mentor other team members to provide backup for PeopleSoft Administrator duties.
  • Production operations responsibilities for maintaining 24/7 coverage.

Job Requirements

Position Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements: 


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or the equivalent education and/or experience 


  • Minimum of five years of relevant and progressive professional experience
  • Experience supporting databases for PeopleSoft applications
  • Extensive experience in Oracle database working closely with PeopleSoft applications for new projects while supporting existing environments; database security protocol
  • Must have experience as DBA in Oracle (12c+)
  • PeopleSoft Administration experience is highly preferred as well as with SQL Service and MySQL
  • Solid experience in cloning databases
  • Experienced with PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.55+: Application Designer, Data Mover, and Upgrade with Change Assistant and patch updates with PUM.
  • Experienced on Middleware technology with Tuxedo, Apache, Tomcat, and fusion middleware
  • Experience with principles and practices of Change Management, Configuration Management, Project Management, and Systems Development Lifecycle
  • Experience designing and managing services that protect sensitive data, such as data that is regulated by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), and Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) etc


  • Expertise in solving problems under ambiguous situations; must be able to process both abstract and concrete information, consider alternatives, and think outside the box
  • Ability to work well independently or as a team member
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of new and current technology and trends
  • Ability to collaborate with vendors and system service providers, provide administration for system solutions, and act as a liaison
  • Hardworking, quick learner with can-do attitude
  • Understanding of the operations, design, and foundational principles associated with following services: Development operations, Configuration Management, Automation and metrics driven continuous process improvement.
  • SQL scripting automation is required. Knowledge of UNIX Shell scripting is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in the support requirements of large database applications/systems including performance analysis and tuning of high volume, transaction systems
  • Skilled in installation/setup and management of highly available application clustered environment
  • Understanding of emerging IT trends like cloud hosting (PaaS/IaaS) and big data analytics.
  • Good understanding of IT Service methodology/framework, such as ITIL and knowledge of ServiceNow
  • Possess and have ability to apply broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Knowledgeable of industry changes, legal updates, and technical developments related to applicable area of the Company’s business to proactively respond to changing business environment
  • Intermediate proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office package (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Overtime hours may be required to fulfill job responsibilities
  • May require travel outside normal work location
