Job Description

Tokio Marine HCC - Guaranty Group, a member of the Tokio Marine HCC group of companies, has an exciting opportunity for a Structured Credit Analyst in our office in New York, NY.

This individual will be a valuable member of the Guaranty Group and work closely with the Sr. Underwriters to analyze structured transaction opportunities for risk of loss and pricing adequacy (includes both quantitative and qualitative analysis), reviews insurance applications to evaluate, classify, and rate each risk to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing. The position will be responsible to establish, maintain, and develop market and/or broker relationships. TMHCC title: Guaranty Underwriter

The position carries out responsibilities in the following areas 

  • Work with more senior underwriters to perform analysis of new transactions – qualitative and quantitative basis.
  • Consider risks and offer insights into mitigation, quantification, and acceptability of such risks
  • Surveillance of existing portfolio to monitor performance
  • Support the primary underwriting of Government Sponsored Enterprises (GSE) and Eminent Domain Group as well as primary support for structured transactions and aircraft business
  • Provides underwriting in single or multiple areas of (re)insurance coverage. Provides a critical review of transaction documents including insurance policies and/or capital markets documents. 
  • Understand transactional earnings methodology and collaborate with TMHCC accounting department to agree accounting methodologies
  • Cultivate relationships with internal and external contacts to facilitate the underwriting process, promote business development, and to remain abreast of industry trends.
  • Evaluate (re)insurance applications and related documents to evaluate and assess each risk, suggest acceptability, assign rating, indicate endorsement, and appropriate pricing.
  • Contact and respond to verbal and written inquiries within designated timeframe to provide appropriate information and serve as an underwriting resource.
  • Research and understand industry changes, updates and technical developments.


  • Within the first 30 days, read through the transactional summaries of historical deals to become familiar with the Guaranty Group
  • Within the first 45 days should be able to do excel modelling of transactions by getting familiarize with the transaction documents. 
  • Within the first 90 days, perform surveillance of outstanding deals & use Performance Surveillance Report to track and monitor the deals. Assist in preparation of internal risk reports

Job Requirements


  • Experience:
    • Ideally, the successful candidate will have 2-4 years of relevant professional experience
    • Experience in Finance or Accounting
    • Experience with some kind of credit analyst program preferred
    • Modelling/database/excel skills
  • Experience evaluating & making decisions to take financial risk
  • Optimization of work processes.
  • Knows the most effective and efficient methods to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Flexibility and a willingness to learn.
  • Sound analytical skills, as well as strong decision-making and problem-solving aptitude
  • Must be an exceptional communicator and able to make positive connections with both external and internal contacts
  • Educational and skills requirements: 
    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance / Accounting or related field, or the equivalent education and/or experience
    • CFA progress preferred
    • Completion of a credit training program, or similar, at a major bank preferred
  • Overtime hours may be required
  • Will require travel outside normal work location
